generally, housework is not something i like to toil over for any length of time, only just enough to show our space some love and respect. i’ve been playing catch-up after being out of commission for a week _two weeks ago_ when the kids and i were sick. hal did what he could to help [...]

occasional stretches of loneliness are far more comfortable than the effort and planning it takes to meet new people [with children in tow] at prepared engagements. the structure of an intentional group has never blended well with my disposition. i like it when new friendship encounters are readily gained, when it happens due to the [...]
How 30 seconds can feel like a lifetime…

i took max and bella to the beach on monday, with two friends and their children (we totaled a pack of nine). we had a picnic lunch at an old and crusted wooden table before heading out to claim our spot in the sand. as we were setting our things down, and the rented umbrella [...]
Lessons From Children:
Posted in Family, Home, Words on July 28, 2009 | Comments Off
it takes the average child about 20 seconds to undo a days worth of housework. it takes my children about half that amount of time. talk about a lesson in detachment to the fruit of one’s labor.
and i realize this post is a bit on the navel-gazing side, but i’m in need of some self-nudging at the moment, so bare with me.

i’m pulling back from facebook, as it is quite the time suck for me. once i get on, it seems i can’t get off (such a waste of time in any scenario).
sometimes, for long stretches at a time, i read update after update. it is a brilliant site, as i also get hooked on doing [...]

oh, money, how i have neglected you so. see, i’d rather not think about you, i like spending without wondering how much i have left, or whether or not more will be coming in. yes, i know, not the most financially responsible way to live.
this morning, i checked our bank account and was elated [...]

it seems like the rest of the world is racing to get outside while we’re finding work, play, and life inside. i envy those up north who are finding that it’s time to dig out their light sweaters, or at the very least, can sit outside without breaking a sweat. the entire morning, up until [...]
~ enjoying the slow ~

these summer days are reminiscent of slower times working in a bookstore, before starting my new job as a homemaker. times when i’d find deliberate projects to pass the hours. they were always tedious, yet, interesting. those small projects that allowed a worker to touch each cover and just be, a book lover. i’d take [...]

a humdrum day it was. and then there were:
cookies!
max and bella weren’t too interested in spending the day outside, even tho i set up the kiddie pool and slip-and-slide for them. their energy was drawn towards their mama, today. at first the attention is fun, then it gets to be a bit too much. after [...]

something about max’s personality has recently been brought to my attention. it is a trait that is so familiar, only i understand experiencing it as an adult and have not once considered it from a child’s perspective.
he is sensitive, like his mommy (not to be confused with, psychic). he is sensitive to words and to [...]
